The history of General
The General Tire and Rubber Company was formed by William O’Neil and Winfred Fouse in 1915. It did so as an offshoot of Western Tire and Rubber Company. The new business remained in the same town – Akron, Ohio, home to many other rubber companies and businesses of the time, and an area that has seen the inception of several famous tyre companies.
Three years later, the business focused on replacement tyres, and by the Thirties, the company was providing tyres for many trucks across the US. As time passed, they began to produce tyres for many passenger cars, leading to further expansion into the Fifties and beyond.
