The history of Minerva
When Sylvain de Jong began making bicycles in 1897, he could hardly have imagined it would lead to the production of millions of budget-priced tyres in the 21st century.
Indeed, in its early years, Minerva was recognized as a top Belgian car manufacturer. Over 1,500 workers held employment there by 1911, just 14 years after de Jong began making those bicycles. While the Great Depression led to the end of Minerva’s life as a car manufacturer, it was only the beginning of its changing journey. From 1990 onwards, it has become established as a private tyre company and is still based in Belgium.
