Firestone
Built on driving success
Firestone tyres have long been a part of American history. They’ve been fitted to many vehicles that have won famous races including the Indy 500. Today, over a century after Firestone was created, drivers across the world rely on them for safety and performance.
Today, you can buy Firestone tyres made using the latest techniques and technology. You can even purchase tyres made from recycled plastic. Despite the company’s age, Firestone is always looking to the future.
The history of Firestone
If you know a little about tyre history, you may know of one or two companies that established themselves in Akron, Ohio. You can now add Firestone to the mix, too. Founded by Harvey Firestone as the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1900, their first factory would open in Akron in 1902, and their first tyres appeared one year later.
By 1911, the company put its tyres on the first Indianapolis 500 winning vehicle. Nine years later, the Indy 500 winner that year used just one set of Firestone tyres to complete the race. By the turn of the millennium, when Firestone was celebrating its centenary, there were more than 8,000 different tyres rolling off their production lines.
